2. Aarhus University– Aarhus University is a public research university located in Aarhus, Denmark

How to become a doctor at the University of Southern Denmark?

In order to become a doctor you need to complete the training, consisting of a:

  • Bachelor’s degree of three years, where, upon graduating you’ll receive the title of Bachelor
  • Master’s degree in Health Science, Medicine of three years, where, upon graduating you’ll receive the title of Cand.Med.
  • Following that it is possible to complete a 3-year doctoral programme (Ph.D.)

Entry Requirements

Public Health
The Faculty of Health Sciences offers courses in public health at master level taught in English at Esbjerg campus.

Medicine

Medical Internship
As a student of medicine, you can apply for 3-4 months of internships. You rotate between 3-4 sections, spending up to 4 weeks in each. It is not possible to do 3-4 months in only one section. The number of internships is limited. Students get placed on a first come, first serve principle. Exchange students from partner universities have priority over other guest students applying to do an internship. A command of Danish is required.

Please note that medical students in Denmark complete compulsory hospital service after their master exam. The details of this service are arranged by the National Board of Health and not by the universities. Thus, we are not able to help in this matter.

If you wish to do laboratory work, it’s important that you describe what you wish to work on for the relevant professor to assess it and accept you.

If you wish to apply for an internship at a hospital you must upload a statement specifying your learning objectives; i.e. are you required to have practical or observational experience, etc

Scholarships and grants

There are several ways of covering your expenses while studying in Denmark: One major way is through the Danish government scholarship.

The Danish government offers financial support to EU/EEA students that are active in the Danish workforce. Students receive the equivalent of 80 % of the maximum unemployment benefit rate standard set in Denmark.

Applicants should meet certain requirements such as: have at least 25 years old, must not receive other forms of public funding and have a minimum of 26 weeks of work experience.

  • Erasmus Mundus Scholarship Programs in Denmark – both EU/EEA and non-EU/EAA students who apply to a Master’s degree that is offered jointly by a Danish institution and another European university are eligible for a scholarship. Check the list of partner universities in Denmark.
